Gina Hannuksela's R&B single comforts the lonely / The Weekend

Uppsala-based artist and songwriter Gina Hannuksela releases her new single – The Weekend.

Last year, we were introduced to the burgeoning soulstress with her debut releases ‘Calling‘ and ‘Lose Myself‘, which gave us laidback R&B vibes with reflective lyrics. Now she returns with, for me, her best track to date.

Working with Uppsala-based producers Ayyy B and Gabbz, The Weekend offers a modern trap-influenced R&B track with an atmospheric soundscape. Written by Gina, her soulful melodies and soul-hop delivery flow like a moisturiser as she expresses the story of loneness. The bass is spongy, and the guitar chords bright and lively.

In a moving and touching statement, Gina said –

“I wrote ‘The Weekend’ a while ago but I feel it’s just as relevant now as then. I think you will experience loneliness your whole life, although sometimes more than others. For me, the weekends have resulted in a lot of lonely times and I often found myself looking forward to Monday. Because then you’re going to work or school where you’re surrounded by people.”
