Hannes, one of Sweden’s smoothest male vocalists, returns after a two-year hiatus with a new single and video, Snooze.
Produced by Marcus White, with a music video directed by Erik Pousette (see above), Snooze delivers a trippy, surreal R&B affair. Hannes’s touching voice, unconventional verses (flying dogs goes, woof, woof) are mirrored in abstract videography.
We last heard Hannes on his debut EP ‘Summer 3000‘ (2019), which included his timeless debut single, I Went To The Jungle. Musically residing in the alternative world of soul and R&B, the EP drew the Soul/Pop queen Seinabo Sey‘s attention, who invited him to perform alongside her.
After two foggy years (his own words) Hannes awoke from a long dream and realized that he needed something new.
Translated from Swedish, Hannes said
“I woke up from a dream one day, went out and started thinking that I wanted to try something new. I listened to good music, met a dog and started thinking about my old dog. Later I heard some birds reminding me that I want to try something new. I forgot the song after we made it, but then we found it again and liked it. I’ve been to the studio a lot. I have smoked too much and am trying to quit. My producer Marcus and I work hard, and I do not meet my friends as often as possible. I also have a girlfriend now!”
Through his dreamlike prism, Hannes presents a velvety-smooth ride into an intriguing alternative dimension. Pushing past trends and exploring originality has become his trademark.
Snooze is the first release from his forthcoming EP When the city sleeps, due this autumn. Stay awake for that.
