Imla invites you to Sunny Street

I really want all the artists we introduce you to on our site to do well.

Over the years of hearing numerous demos and private links nothing beats hearing the drive, passion and excitement of each artist. It’s magical to be around and I’d be so happy to see all these independent artists get the recognition they deserve.

However, as much as we at Scandinaviansoul.com attempt to enlighten as many people as possible to all the great music we sadly can’t reach everyone, and in turn, artists who should light up peoples mornings and evenings may have already passed many by.

I hope that’s not the case with vivacious singer Imla who I caught at her single release event last night.

Dressed in purple, (I wonder if that was a nod to Prince or am I still mourning?) and long, black laced gloves, the charismatic, ever-smiling singer gave an elegant performance opening with her new single Sunny Street, which has a folk/soul vibe.

In the cozy atmosphere of Scalateatern’s underground bar, Imla also performed several tracks from her forthcoming album Birdcage, which included my personal favourite ‘Juliet’. The well written quality of the lyrics shines through as she blends blues, folk, soul and pop – all overlaid with her warm, soulful tones.

The band consisted of Jonas André (producer / keys), Mats Eriksson (guitar), Mats Ingvarsson (bass) and Måns Block (drums). Her two backing singers had sadly taken ill, and considering the short notice the band did a good job of filling in.

For me, there’s a retro sound to Imla’s music, it’s one that demands you take your time to listen to. It isn’t produced for maximum in-your-face impact.

Like a fine wine, Imlas music is there to be enjoyed, coolly and leisurely… and I certainly did!
