There are a few universal truths in life: ice cream melts too fast, movie trailers that show to much are terrible films, and Isabelle Eberdean’s songs are never long enough.
Seriously, where can I make soulful music from Scandinavia legally required to be at least eight minutes long? I’d take a whole album of extended versions — Side A, B, C, or D — all of them titled More Isabelle Eberdean Please. But I digress. (Barely.)
Isabelle Eberdeen returns with a new slice of sunshine called Brew Boy, and once again, she’s not just bringing the heat — she’s got all the summer essentials.
Where her summer hit Falling in Love lit up our speakers, Brew Boy gently pours out the kind of warmth that makes you want to lie on the grass and contemplate whether life could always sound this soulful. Spoiler: it can, if Isabelle keeps releasing music like this.
‘Wait, did this track just get even better?’
This is retro influenced soul at its breezy best. There’s a soft 70s vibe to the groove — think rare groove meets tea-and-vinyl Sundays — but with a fresh twist that’s all hers. Familiar yet new. The melody that kicks in towards the end of the song is the kind that makes you pause mid-sip and think, ‘Wait, did this track just get even better?‘
Yes. Yes, it did. And then it ends. Cruelly. After just under three minutes. Which is barely one sip of sunshine in soul terms!
Vocally, Isabelle does what she always does — charms the socks off you without even trying. There’s nothing showy, no unnecessary vocal gymnastics. Just pure, honest delivery that feels like a friend telling you about a new crush over a cup of something hot. (Which, fittingly, is exactly the mood she’s serving on the single’s cover image.)
So, take our advice, make yourself a good cup of tea or coffee, add a little sunlight, and press play on Brew Boy. Then press repeat. Several times. It’s the only way to cope with the criminally short runtime.
