From the opening guitar chords, you know you’re in Jána’s world.
There’s something about the way this song begins — this time, it’s gently plucked guitar strings with a subtle bluesy twang — that immediately makes time slow down. Or maybe you just drift away, like curls of smoke through the sunlight. Either way, you’re not where you were 10 seconds ago.
Jána, a Swedish singer, songwriter, and producer we’ve praised on this website before, returns with When Time Flies — a mellow, beautifully constructed track.
“Where do your dreams go? When time flies” she asked in the chorus. One of those simple questions that catch you in sudden reflective thought.
The production is elegant, but it’s her voice, soft, just on the edge of hushed that carries the track into the sublime. There’s an intimacy in the way she sings, like she’s letting you in on something quietly profound.
Musically, When Time Flies is unhurried, spacious, and deeply textured. It evolves. There are subtle dynamic shifts in rhythm and instrumentation, and a haunting vocal harmony that forms the outro, which is so delicate, so perfectly placed, it almost felt like an exhale.
And then… silence.
It’s moments like these that remind us why we keep searching for songs that don’t play by the usual rules. This is what we mean when we talk about contrast and craft—how a song can be soft without being dull or mellow without fading into the background. Jána knows exactly where to place each detail to achieve a gorgeous expression.
There are plenty of songs released every day (too many in my opinion). But When Time Flies is a reminder that songs with soul, intention, and craft are out there and worth discovering and supporting.
Jána’s single is definitely one of them.
