Jasmine Kara may have successfully explored a world of diverse genres, but the Swedish songstress has returned home. And home has proved consistently best.
Blues and soul music makes the perfect home for the powerhouse vocals of this petite singer/songwriter.
Ta Mitt Hjärtat is Jasmine Kara‘s first-ever Swedish sung ballad, and she effortlessly delivers a heartfelt vocal tearing with emotion. Her distinct voice is a constant marvel – coarse at the edges as if formed from a life of hardship and cigarettes – and there’s some truth that. Jasmine has previously written a book about a destructive relationship (Hälsa Henne att Hon Ska Dö (eng – Greet Her That She Will Die), and the trauma remains glowing like cinders within her.
Ta Mitt Hjärtat (eng – Take my heart) is about living in a destructive relationship, which felt like a passionate and perfect love story before it quickly turned into the opposite.
‘I had the idea for the song in my head already on the way to the studio. It was dark and icy cold outside, I was driving, and the song just came, and I sang straight out at the wheel,’ explained Jasmine.
“Take my heart; it is yours! Though you do not care about mine” (Translated lyrics from Swedish). The feeling of darkness in the body usually comes creeping back every time that season. The memory of the old destructive relationship that dragged me to the bottom of the darkness. That feeling needed to come out of me’.
Jasmine and Mattias Green wrote the song with Peter Kvint behind the production, creating a raw retro feel with a modern touch.
In the Scandinavian Soul scene, 60’s inspired soul music continues its revival transporting us back to songs with well-written lyrics, spirit and authentic instrumentation. Ta Mitt Hjärtat is another sign of its strong and exciting comeback.
Welcome home, Jasmine Kara.
