So, how many live sessions have you watched during this pandemic?
According to our survey so far, it doesn’t look like many. And I get it. For many, having spent the past year at home, live performances almost frustratingly tease the life we are so desperately missing.
Conversely, and far more positively, it allows us to continue enjoying the music and artists we love, undisturbed and ‘on-demand’.
Live sessions are revealing performances presenting the artist or band in a new, intimate light. The format can even relight a career, as Elvis discovered with his ’68 comeback special.
Today, stages may have closed; however, creativity has no barriers and the lockdown opened new formats to bring the music home to us instead.
Dubbed the Godfather of Scandinavian Soul, this EP is arguably Jonas’s best work to date.
4ward Fast To Future
Award-winning Danish artist Jonas Rendbo discovered the enforced isolation opened an opportunity to revisit previously unreleased work. Collaborating with the British multi-instrumentalist and producer The Scratch Professer (spelt correctly :-), and released the EP 4ward Fast To Future.
The combination of strong songwriting and superb production made for an outstanding EP that was well-received and highly praised by international soul stations and soul websites. Dubbed the Godfather of Scandinavian Soul, this EP is arguably Jonas’s best work to date.
The soul pioneer now joined fellow Danes, music collective 2 PLAY, and filmed the EP in a live session.
Recorded at Denmarks’ famous STC Studios, Jonas, dressed in a black robe and wearing dark glasses, gives a soul masterclass. His expressive style is unique, and his smooth vocal notes appear lifted from his inner core. Jonas resembles a preacher – a messenger for soul music.
The black and white filmography adds a vintage touch alike art in its original and purest form. Distractions eliminated, the rich colour flows from Jonas and superb instrumentation and solos from 2 PLAY. The sound mix is exhilaratingly full, fascinating in detail, with sweet harmonies collectively forming an engaging representation of these moving songs.
Naturally, a live session isn’t a replacement for a live concert atmosphere; however, the beauty of music is by listening, you will not just hear something good but feel something amazing inside, too, no matter where you are. That emotion is your soul awakening.
This is what happens when the Godfather sings.
