Any new release by Molly Hammar feels like Christmas to me. Her powerhouse vocals and R&B vibe had us transfixed since we discovered her and with every release since. However, her latest single, in particular, has us somehow jingling with seasonal joy. And no, the track isn’t a Christmas single at all.
However, the sentiments and the exquisite vocal notes Molly hits sends images of Mariah Carey and Leona Lewis swirling in my mind.
Shortcuts (I can’t Wait) is a tale of searching for dreams, and yet…and yet, it feels so much like Christmas Eve – the butterflies tingling before something exciting.
Contrary to my feelings, Molly explains:
“I’m so tired of not being a superstar” Molly quips with a twinkle in her eye, “I said that to my songwriters, and that’s how ‘Shortcuts’ was born. ‘Shortcuts’ is about all the shortcuts you can take towards fulfilling your dreams and the struggle I think everyone faces when you have big dreams and want to achieve them. All the pressure that comes with it, the frustration, the longing. I’ve learned that taking the long road always pays off in the end, if you want something that’s gonna last. Both career-wise and in life. It’s a frustration anthem in the most beautiful way.”
It’s incredible to read that one of Sweden’s strongest natural vocalists in a generation struggles to be heard over an ocean of artists. Her R&B/ pop singles such as Show Me, No Place Like Me and Words are already testimony to her exceptional talents and her latest single joins this growing list. If Mollys on the long road, then she can be assured that she won’t walk alone, and will be supported all the way.
Music is subjective, and we hear what we want to hear, the most important thing is to listen. No matter what you hear, don’t miss Molly Hammar.
And yeah, I’ll be playing this all-day Christmas Eve too.
