Having released one album, one EP, five singles and several music videos since 2009 you would think I would have heard of Norwegian singer Myrna Braza but somehow she had slipped past our Scandinavian Soul music scouts.
Now discovered I thought I’d cast an inquisitive ear over her 6-track EP Moments released sept 2013.
Go! is the title of the opening track which hits you with energetic pop. Without even knowing Myrna she comes across as a bubbly spirit and it’s clear in this track. The short, spunky and fun video accompanying Go! almost outshines the song. Very watchable (see below)
‘Free me from these chains’ sings Myrna in the track Save Me which is also enjoyable with Myrna light, soulful vocals.
However, if the whole EP sounded as good as ‘My Cocaine (Ft Son Of Light)’ it would have been one seriously stunning EP!
Somehow this track fits Myrna voice best with it’s funky soul and groovy breaks. Rapper, Son of Light edges his way into the song with a fitting uptempo rap and we last heard him dropping lyrics on Rebekka B Maeland’s ‘My Way’. Thrilling and exciting, such is the quality of this track that sadly the remainder of the EP comes up short.
Still Waters, Lala and Heavy Heart just don’t sit well with the brilliant My Cocaine.
Listening to more tracks in her back catalogue it’s hard NOT to like Myrna, with her charming style and infectious energy, however, the EP Moments does indeed have its moments – highs and lows.
The highs however only prove what music magic Myrna is really capable of.
