Unexpected and so very welcome, Swedish singer Neneh Cherry returns with her new single/video – Kong.
The Buffalo Stance icon drops a soulful/reggae soaked single deftly produced by Four Tet and 3D (Massive Attack) matched with a visually and culturally engaging video directed by Jenn Nkiru (Beyoncé and JAY-Z’s “APESHIT”).
Four Tet also produced Neneh ’s last album, 2014’s Blank Project and since then she’s released a track with Dev Hynes called ‘He, She, Me.’
Speaking about the new single on FaceBook Neneh says,
“Kong is an attempt at putting to words the ever growing disaster that is the displaced people of this world. The lyrics are trying to be personal and remembering the things that are easy to forget: the ordinary everyday lives, everyday loves, family, home left behind in deep pain trying to save a life. Looking at the maps of Europe and the great West with all its promise of possibility…the lands that created all the misery in the first place.“
