After a five-year absence Danish soul singer Jonas returns with his first album – and this time it’s in Danish.
The exclusive music video for the first single, Når Verden Ender (When The World Ends), is below.
Jonas (Jonas Rendbo) made his debut in 2001 with the band Jonz. Since then he released two English-language albums “Sweet Dreams Guaranteed” (2005) and “Waitt” (2009). Both albums were well received and opened the opportunity to travel the world – including Africa, USA and Europe – and share the stage with, among others John Legend, Bilal, Macy Gray and Joss Stone.
Furthermore, he has also worked closely with other artists like David Jay, Anchor Star, Rasmus Seebach, Nexus, Aura, Burhan G, Xander, Omar, Jojo Abot, Wafande and many others. Recently Jonas has been touring Europe extensively as a backing singer and support act with the Hip Hop group Outlandish.
Speaking to Gaffa.se Jonas described his new sound as “more melancholy and gloomy, more programmed and electronic, more R&B”.
Jonas continued: “I lost faith and love for R & B many years ago. I’d grown up during the time Teddy Riley coined the new jack swing, and the genre of contemporary R&B occurred. 90s R&B was empty and boring – and then died. Now we are in the middle of a new wave of R&B, where a lot of young, exciting artists are pushing the boundaries of what the genre can be. There is now room to be vulnerable, poetic, melancholy and many other things. There’s a new depth, and musically there is also much higher ceilings. It inspired me. This has given me a taste and has made me fall in love with R&B again. “
Når Verden Ender is produced in collaboration with Tais (Hukaos).
