Inspired by 60s Motown recordings, Numa Edema continues to establish himself as one of Norway’s prominent male soul singers with his latest release – Coming Home.
In the true authentic style of vintage soul music, Numa Edema records live in the studio (listen to OSLO), and as with this, his latest release, is backed by 17 musicians. With the tape decks and cameras rolling (joking about the tape decks but sure they were there) – Coming Home was recorded in a live session (see top video).
Sullen in melody, the opening strings glide into Numa’s emotionally-rich soul vocals of his story of reconciliation and optimism. Produced by André Viervoll, Numa is accompanied by a symphony of delicate soul harmonies by none other than soul queen Noora Noor – together it’s pure, sweet soul music.
Modern Soul music has many dimensions, as the Scandinavian soul library testifies. However, Numa Edema places the undeniable and recognisable heart of Soul music in the core where the forefathers’ Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye and Donny Hathaway reside.
Numa’s raw emotive delivery and respect for the artistic sources are equally honest and highly praiseworthy.
Coming Home is taken from his forthcoming album ‘Soul Out of Oslo‘
