We are going to take you backtracking here, but only to Nov 2019. As it was then, Swedish singer/songwriter Rahwa released the single ALL EYE SEE. The song contains an irresistible rhythm, and such soulful magnitude to make us wonder how we never heard this before?
As a small team, and with so much new music arising, it should be no surprise that some releases escape our soulful searching efforts. And knowing this explains why compiling a ‘Best of the Year‘ list is so difficult with the nagging thought that we haven’t heard ‘everything’. However, if we had, All Eye See would have been in it.
..the bassline is so hypnotic even Houdini wouldn’t escape it
The soft, soulful vocals of Rahwa transfix with a house groove and production of impressive quality. There is space in the beat where Rahwa voice is allowed to express unhindered, captivating and enthralling with her words. The chorus hooks and the bassline is so hypnotic even Houdini wouldn’t escape it.
When I get down on my good luck
I look up, and all eye see is you.
The lyrics are of gratitude for loving support from that someone special. And as she sings ‘All eye see is you‘ you can almost feel a personal connection.
Released with the song is a neat video (see above), which features a day in the life of a young, expressive generation within a Stockholm suburb.
Rahwa has released her full debut album (Rahwa), and we’ll post a full review shortly. First, we need to spin this track several more times!
Rahwa is a singer/songwriter, based just outside the inner city of Stockholm. Although she has always practised music, it wasn’t until she started taking vocal lessons at her communal music school, alongside joining Tensta Gospel’s Joyful Noise, that she decided to pursue her passion.
Later, she found her musical match in music producer Oskar Skarp. Her self-entitled debut album is a compilation of their acquired experiences and skills, through a filter of their friendship.
Rahwa’s sound is described best as soul music, which often incorporates danceable rhythms. Essentially, she creates from her passion for melody, and her passion for the written word. Frank Ocean, Jhené Aiko, Common and Erykah Badu are a few amongst the artists that really speak to her. However, in the same open spirit of her mind, she welcomes and finds inspiration from all sounds that make her feel something.
