Reverse lights on Ju Kaia

We’re always in a hurry.

Even during a lockdown with all its social restrictions, life’s pace still seems to keep the mental mouse wheel frantically spinning. Those working from home will also recognise feeling the days blurring into one, with even the best, most carefully regimented plans derailed by emails, phone alerts… or a remote control. Morning becomes midnight in a blink of an eye. There never seems to be enough time.

Meanwhile, the soulful sound of Scandinavia continually delivers, however, taking time out, pressing the brakes and backing up a little, helped reveal newcomer Ju Kaia (Julie Moberg) – a Danish soul/rapper, singer/songwriter whose releases are unquestionably worth revisiting.

Drawing together influences of soul, jazz and hip-hop with four singles released to date, Ju Kaia presents a fusion of engaging, assured and sensitive vibes. Followers of her Instagram account will equally admire how her music translates into her fashion. She could be an icon for the image of soul-hop!

Ju Kaia lays down sumptuous vocals on Peace of Mind. Produced by Frederik Levin Rasmussen, its’ as gentle as snowfall; this lo-fi groove melts like ice. Sunshine warm; her lyrics and harmonies are a perfect prescription to drift you into a stream of comfort. The soft intro is laid out like a red carpet.

The silky, jazz-twisted single Silly Silhouette is richer than chocolate, and Ju Kaia’s words cover this is a velvety texture. Her jazzy vocal melodies soothingly serenade as the lyrics hypnotically seduce.

Chit Chat landed in Jan 2021 and heads into the stronger musical currents of hip-hop. Darker in attitude, the deep bass rolls sweetly and the chorus hooks. As a rapper, Ju Kaia finds a natural flow that effortlessly flips into soulful expressions.

Our section ‘Reverse Lights’ pauses the world and allows us to breathe and admire the wealth of music and talents we are so lucky to have access to. Ju Kaia is definitely one of them.
