From 5 – 7 September 2013 Scandinaviansoul.com and Horsens Ny Teater, a modern theatre in Horsen, near Billund in Denmark, present the first “Scandinavian Soul” festival, which brings together more than 120 young musicians from all over Scandinavia.
The festival is a celebration of the new Scandinavian musical trend; Soul. Many young Scandinavian musicians are re-discovering soul music, which in Denmark has led to the current success of artists like Lukas Graham, Barbara Moleko and Nabiha. Over three days the festival will present a selection of new and up-coming Scandinavian soul music artists, some already known and some who deserves to be, from Barbara Moleko, Beady Belle and David Jay to Ida Sand, Klara Kazmi and Magnum Coltrane Price.
Theatre Director Thomas Østergaard has a big heart for Soul and it was therefore obvious to co-operate with us, who, according to Thomas, has our finger on the pulse and a passion for music. Thomas Østergaard says:
“We are proud to collaborate on this project that may pique the curiosity of the audience and the rest of the music industry. We need to get new names into the game throughout the Scandinavian region and here they all come! “
In addition to a packed program with 17 bands from all over Scandinavia the festival also includes workshops for musicians and debates on why Soul is booming in recent years in Scandinavia.
The event will be opened by Horsens Mayor Peter Sørensen and each day begins with a performance from the local dance group TC- Dance Studio
The project is sponsored by the Nordic Culture Fund, Insero Foundation, Hede Nielsen Funds, Inge and Asker Jensen Charity Foundation and Horsens kommun.
