Every time I think summer is over, Sheila Simmenes turns the heat back up with her unique blend of acoustic samba and nordic soul.
We thought the last shimmers of heat were in her previous single Could Be Love; however, the Norwegian songstress delivers golden rays of shimmering light with her new single – Brazil.
Shelia describes her latest song as a love letter to the South American country. The good and the bad. The lyrics are tiny polaroids showing bits and pieces of everyday life, big and small.

“I bring the Brazilian sun with me wherever I go. The friends I have made, the hearts broken and mended, the sweet morning coffee in the shade. This is Brazil to me.” – Sheila Simmenes
Composed in collaboration with Per Olav Kobberstad, produced by Bjørn Ole Rasch (Secret Garden, Annbjørg Lien) and Sheila Simmenes, Sheila vocally dances between English and Portuguese on an acoustic samba beat encapturing the country’s sunrise-friendly vibes. This is catchy hip stirring stuff that hooks from the start.
The Portuguese lyrics in the chorus translates to:
“Always in my heart, my love
As one love leaves, another arrives”
Brazilian music and culture
In 2007, Sheila Simmenes worked as a volunteer at a centre for young children and families in Taubaté, a small village in Brazil. After a chance meeting with a Brazilian reggae band, she became a touring artist, performed on national TV and built relationships with musicians and producers in the country that still influence her songwriting style today.
“I have been incredibly lucky to immerse myself in Brazilian music and culture. It can be very different from my native nordic personality, and living there has really impacted me, my music and how I see the world.” – Sheila Simmenes.
We’re glad she bought the experience home. Her sunshine tones will keep us cosy warm and smiling through the long dark Scandinavian winter.
