The warm summer evenings aren’t over yet as we head into autumn whilst listening to the brand new track ‘Heartbreak’ from Norwegian singer and songwriter Sheila Simmenes.
Shelia’s solo work is new to us but she has already been on stage in Brazil, Portugal, Germany, Sweden, India and Nepal, and has played samba and reggae with the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra.
She also co-wrote the excellent “Summer Feeling” by Rebekka B. Maeland which this year won the Scandinavian Soul Music award for Best soul single 2014.
Having lived in Brazil for two years the influence is clear on this single ‘Heartbreak’ – which has an airy Brazilian beach feeling, with club beats, smooth vocals and an energetic feel-good vibe.
Heartbreak, produced by NuStats at Roar Farstad and jazz guitarist Øyvind Nypan, can currently be heard on Radio Sør, Studentradioen in Kristiansand and NRK Sørlandet. Shelia will also be performing live at the Music Branch festival SØRVEIV in November.
Sounds like Norway is really warming up to Soul!
