Soul trio, The Northern Lights make a surprise and magnificent return with a single authentically crafted with the chords and harmonies from the genres burgeoning heydays.
The Northern Lights are a soul and doo-wop group and exceptionally unique in Sweden. The trio consists of Erik Jonsson, Abel Haile and John Runefelt. Together their rhythm and blues recordings could be mistaken for covers from 1950’s groups the Platters or the Coasters.
However, this Swedish band write original compositions with an arrangement which impeccably mimics the classics.
While not prolific in releases, the few to have made it beyond the studio walls, for example; That’s why you love me, You & I / This Time Around have been gems and available on 7″ via Traveller Records.
Their Christmas single – Best Part of The Year, is the definition of a Scandinavian soul Classic.
Get Up hears The Northern Lights in uplifting mood with a lively piano, sweet horns and lead singer Erik Jonssons’ tones as warming as ever.
Doo-wop may not be ‘hip’ or ‘on-marketing-trends’ blah, blah, blah…but who gives a shit? This is straight-up cool, with no chaser.
The Northern Lights single Get Up is another collector’s item!
