[WATCH] Diza Guava returns to inspire / Tempo

Diza Guava is back with a new single TEMPO and delivers attitude, dedication and a meaty bassline. And even the artist herself admits this single is pretty different from her earlier releases, especially considering the song’s theme. Where before her genre-shaking debuts drew on love and relationships, TEMPO is about living life at high speed. It’s about a tempo most people cannot keep up with and the singer’s frustration.

Diza Guava, as always, delivers a confident vocal right at the intersection of hip hop and soul. That’s all on top of an excellent production. It has a rich sound, and even though it is a relatively short track, it somehow feels longer due to the variations of the verses and the hooks that create contrasts but transition lovely into one another. Speaking of contrasts, Diza’s voice (who always sings in Swedish) has wonderfully smooth and airy qualities when she raps and sings, creating an exciting and dynamic difference to an otherwise reasonably raw song with a rather blunt message. We have to additionally praise Diza Guava for her work with this song, which she wrote, produced and mixed herself in her home studio.

Translating the song’s message, even the artist herself admits in hindsight to it being quite harsh at times and that now she can see she wrote it when she had yet to learn the value of letting some processes take some time. However, while this is very much true, Diza Guava also shows in a modern way that women have every right to speak their minds, have an attitude and work hard to achieve their goals. And through it, she becomes and remains an important role model, voice and inspiration through her artistry.
