A word of warning.
Yes, this writer has been kindly asked by his partner to please stop singing “In Love With My Ex.” Apparently, it sends the wrong message. And yet, it’s almost impossible to stop. The chorus of ALYZA’s latest single is that catchy.
Beneath the hook, however, is something far more poignant. ALYZA, an artist we’ve featured before, delivers a melancholy and tender exploration of emotional whiplash, the kind that comes when you unexpectedly cross paths with someone you once loved. It’s not melodrama or angst for the sake of it. It’s real.
As ALYZA herself explains:
“This is one of my absolute favourite songs from our recent projects. It came to me after I randomly ran into my ex and all the feelings I thought I’d buried just came rushing back. Even after months of healing, I realised I was still in love, despite knowing I deserved better.”

That tension, between remembering and knowing better, breathes life into this song. It’s in the delivery. It’s in the way the melody answers itself after the chorus, a subtle call and response that gives the track its undeniable emotional pull. That moment in love with my ex… and then that gliding melodic echo, is where the track lands most beautifully.
There’s a melancholic elegance to the arrangement too. It’s soulful, yes, but not in the typical sense. ALYZA’s voice is vulnerable without being fragile, and the result is both cathartic and empowering.
For those still healing, or for anyone who’s ever sat in the quiet and wondered what if, this track will hit home. It speaks especially to the aching heart of teenage romances, first loves, or relationships that leave invisible scars.
Nevertheless, if you find yourself humming it, you may get an icy reaction….as I found out!
ALYZA’s full-length debut album, Fall To Love, is set to arrive later this year in 2025, and if this track is anything to go by, it’s one to mark on the calendar.
