The latest release from Swedish band Cloudpocket, ‘Get Stereo‘, again raises the volume on their classic hi-fi stack (remember those?) to keep you up and dancing all night long.
70s disco groove is added to their funky style, creating a flawlessly well-matching combination. From such a catchy intro, you’re almost surprisingly led by vocals with a dark neo-soul quality to them, far more so than you would expect.
The song won’t disappoint you, even when paying attention to details – the true beauty of music. On the contrary, there are a lot of fun details to listen for in this well-produced track. The distinctive drums, which give an extra energetic pulse, are one example while it flirts with 90s synth-pop. The male harmonies on the female lead vocals in the song’s second half are another. These vocals are rich, dynamic and varied, even with a relatively laid back singing style.
The band themselves says “there’s a fine line between letting go and losing control“, which is reflected in the song’s lyrics. However, we see this being reflected in the song as a whole. In “Getting stereo”, harsh lines between different music styles and genres have merged without losing control over where it’s headed. The song is well composed, and one red thread seems to stand out over the others: it is indeed soulful.
Turn it up!
