It feels good to write this name again.
Now, I would say the return, but it’s not like Samson For President ever disappeared. He’s just returned to our Scandinavian Soul pages, and if you’ve followed us from the start, you’ll know he was one of the first artists we championed. Back then, it was his album Papa’s Old Piano that got us hooked. Since then, he’s kept moving, kept exploring, and kept reaching for fresh sounds. Folk, global grooves, soulful storytelling. Always evolving. Always honest.
And now we’ve got Dang Dang.
This one arrives with a groove that’s impossible to ignore. There’s a real reggae feel pulsing through it, and yet it still feels unmistakably like Samson For President. It’s soulful, for sure, but it’s also sunny and rhythmically rich. The bass is deep and warm, the drums roll with laid-back confidence, and then there’s that chorus “dang dang dang dang” so simple, so catchy, and absolutely made for live shows. You just know any crowd is going to be singing along.
We’ve got to salute artists who take their musical travels seriously and still manage to make it all sound so natural. There’s nothing forced here. It flows. There’s a dynamic range. There’s flavour. It’s got bounce and soul in equal measure.
And that’s why it feels right to have Samson For President back on our pages. He belongs here. Not because I’m terribly nostalgic (which I am), but because he’s just dropped a track that stands tall on its own.
Dang Dang is one of those tracks that could easily get lost in the sea of daily releases, but it shouldn’t. Not this one. Don’t sleep on it.
All credit to Samson For President.
He’s got our vote. Again.
