Soulful singer OKAT (Katja de Neergaard) made her debut in May 2015 with the soul and R&B EP Something Better, featuring five producers from the Copenhagen based collective Stoned Academy. Now, the singer from Nordvest is ready to present a video for her track High Like, which combines her sharp, dark and soulful voice, with an energetic and atmospheric beat from hip hop producer Sofa T.
The video was directed by Anders Knudsen and Frederik Rudolph in Copenhagen, and features experienced dancer and choreographer Thea Carla Schøtt – the mysterious figure behind OKAT.
After the release of her EP OKAT had a busy summer, performing several concerts in Denmark and Sweden, as well as hosting Bas Under Buen in Århus. At the same time, she has been working with new producers such as RDG, Pato Siebenhaar and Jah Highness.
“As a singer, I really appreciate being able to work with a bunch of different producers” says OKAT. “These are people that I admire and who I know can inspire me. What I love about the music scene in Copenhagen is that people are good at inviting new people in and just take it from there. There’s a great energy around that, which I find really inspiring in the sense that I can try out so many different approaches. I have a bunch of lyrics that are just waiting for the right beat… but right now, I’m just super excited to show everyone the video!”
OKAT will be performing November 19th at Dome of Visions with one of the most active dubstep producers in Denmark, RDG (from Surfase Records and Circle Vision). She will also be playing a night-concert at RUST on November 21st with Sofa T and her back-up singers The High Lights.
The next video from OKAT is getting its final touches and is to be released in the beginning of 2016, along with brand new material.
