Danish singer/songwriter Kaja launches her debut release Can’t Let You on Soundcloud with a welcoming, angelic vocal to warm the coldest hearts.
Never giving up can be good, and bad, as the song’s theme explores. It is about wanting to change yourself in a relationship and accepting a lot of stuff rather than letting go.
Angelic and delicate, Kaja’s voice floats on this minimalistic produced single, underpinned with a rounded R&B bass and woozy piano.
Introducing Kaja
Twenty-two years young – Kaja (Kaja Klüssmann) grew up in the suburbs of Copenhagen.
Aged six, she picked up a toy keyboard and instantly started writing songs. Mostly lyrics that didn’t make sense and were obvious childish, but it was the fun and playfulness that immediately got Kaja hooked.
The Keyboard was replaced by the software Garage Band, and Garage band was eventually replaced by Logic. In parallel, her songwriting grew into producing her own songs.
When Kaja moved to Copenhagen, she jumped in and out of sessions collaborating with many people. Supported by her peers, the experience helped Kaja learn a lot, but she almost became lost ‘in music’, and forgot the fun and play that got her started.
It took some time to reconnect and find her voice and her sound. Eventually, in a home studio in the Freetown of Christiania, she rediscovered her musical heart. Music is her safe and happy place. A place for experimenting and having a good time – even though, as Kaja says ‘the songs and music can be quite melancholy while communicating tough and important messages.‘
Musically, Kaja describes being heavily inspired by the artist Banks.
‘…because the music and lyrics have so much nerve, presence, and energy while still fragile and minimalistic. It’s like the music welcomes you with open arms and a message – and that’s a feeling I would like people to feel when they listen to my music.’
Short and sweet, Can’t Let You is an embraceable start. Rest assured, you’ll want to rush into the arms of Kajas’ music.
