Danish singer/songwriter Emily Simbi‘s new single and video elegantly expresses her soulful blues in What You Can’t See.
Emily’s dreamy, ethereal voice and gentle guitar chords stimulate a heaviness of heart with confusion and pain. The rhythm feels like a racing heartbeat. And yet, through this haunting outpouring, Emily reminds us a delicate flower resides within.
As her last line testifies;
Don’t let my doubt
scare you away.

Emily Simbi, who has Haitian roots (in fact she is named after a Vodou spirit – Simbi, after Simbi Dlo, who is a water spirit), is a relative newcomer. Still, after several releases, she has already established her style of melancholy, contemplative soul.
Full Lyrics:
You think you see me, but you don’t
What you see is your reflection
And about those skills you think I have
Those are just your own projections.
I’m empty and I don’t have a clue
About where I’m going or what I should do
All I know is to take what I need
When opportunity is showing, I’ll get my seat.
I don’t know what to do with this grief
I don’t know what to do with this anger
Oh those feelings
Starting to change my appearance
I don’t know what to do with these tears
I don’t know what to do with this frustration
These feelings, these feelings.
Come to me,
won’t you stay.
Don’t let my doubt
scare you away.
