Soulful singer Hannes has released his new single – Fill Me Up, out now on all streaming services.
We recently wrote about the upcoming Swedish singer as ‘an artist you need to know’ and judging by the crowded venue at his first ever event many are already becoming aware. Hannes is one of several upcoming soul singers who are shining the light for the future with their fresh blends of arrangements, lyrical style and visual presentations.
Hannes’s single – Fill Me Up opens with gentle guitar strings, before adding several layers; introducing a hand clap, firework sound effects and a softly played Sax. Hannes is vocally engaging and smooth, effortlessly creating a compelling listen.
Mini-live review – Hannes Debut Performance
Stockholm restaurant Musslan isn’t ideally suited for live gigs, but I’m sure glad they do them. Just getting in tonight is a problem but live music is worth squeezing in for. Human interaction seems even more vital in our digital consuming age and seeing a live band always satisfy. Tonight Hannes is playing, and the place is full. The bar is lined with people seated and standing. An outstretched arm to retrieve a drink will undoubtedly bring someone’s face into your armpit.
The stage area has the classic Turkish rug – an acoustic essential though this is warm tan in hue, a colour I’d not seen before. The gig is advertised to start at 10:00. It’s 10:20. I need to leave for the station at 10:50 and catch my last train home. Missing it is not an option.
I seemed to have turned on my invisible skills (a skill I used to have when dating) as a man whose height is equal to mine stands in front of me, his curly locks almost touch my nose.
My toes are trodden on, and my elbows are bumped. No apologies are heard. Scandinavian living does have some quirks that I’ll never get used to.
Hannes makes his way through the crowd; his short-cropped hair and stocky build are recognisable from his profile pictures. He announces that this is first ever gig, and naturally, the nerves were there. He humbly thanked the audience for their turn out. Hannes opens with a solo performance of My Shine is A Fade, before being joined by his musical partner Marcus White and several musicians for Better Days, Every Young Boy and his new single Fill Me Up. He finishes the evening with a vocal and bass version of his ‘hit’ debut single – I Went to the Jungle. Hannes has a mystic and aura that keeps you transfixed, and you could sense everyone was as fully engrossed as I.
He may have performed an encore, but sadly at this point, my feet were hot stepping homeward. I’m looking forward to seeing this singer in larger venues where he is undoubtedly headed, and hopefully with earlier start times for us out-of-towners!
