With heavy reggae undertones, Danish soul vixen Stine Kinck hits us with a harmony-fueled project of 11 tracks.
Stine first attracted my attention when I was out on the east coast of the USA. I was really knocked out by the stuff she was doing in collaboration with several New York musicians. Her amazingly confident, strong and sensual tones impelled me to find out more.
Stine’s decision to leave the states and return home to Denmark to work with homegrown musicians was the best thing ever – and it has led to this impressive full-length LP. The sound on the album is grown up, sexy, and has musical depth.
Track one, “Kom med mig“, is a joyful, upbeat number with offbeat undertones. Afro-Percussion instruments blend well with a rounded tonality that is unmistakably Danish. The deep horns and Stine’s vocal range get you instantly. The following song, “Boss“, retains the same reggae backbeat vibe with some brilliant sampled patois at the beginning and end.
Tracks such as the bluesy “Når Jeg Kommer Hem” and “Mitt Liv” mesh modern soul with a throwback sensibility. Other urban influences are thrown in to smooth out the mix, like the closing notes of the final cut; the bhangra-Soul influenced “Nattens Eventyr“, which is just Amazing!
