Neon Ion – an artist who stirs R&B and pop into an appealing new realm, has released her latest single – Gold Covered Bliss.
The Norwegian singer/songwriter Neon Ion (Natalie Sandtorv) illuminated the music sphere during the Pandemic lockdown with her debut album Heart Echoes – a mix of modern R&B/soul, slick pop with hints of disco. Dance floors remain aglow with her debut single ‘Neon Dreams‘.
Now Neon Ion and her band return with ‘Gold Covered Bliss‘. Released on Jazzland Recordings, the mid-tempo single flows with a modernistic twist of R&B layered with Neon’s entrancing soulful vocals spiced up by her soft Norwegian dialect.
Lockdown love
Neon Ion discovered one benefit to the Lockdown. Using the downtime of the pandemic, she reconnected with her musician husband, the jazz drummer Ole Mofjell. It allowed them to fall in love again and ultimately gave birth to ‘Gold Covered Bliss‘.
Written prominently as a love letter, she also aims to remind us that we need to prioritise people around us, or we could end up losing them. It’s a lesson many of us ‘hopefully’ learned.
“With this song, I really wanted to paint a picture of colourful, warm energy between a couple,” says Natalie. “A world you can taste and touch. To me, it’s vivid and real, and I love performing it and telling this story to the audience.”
She continued:
“I actually never wrote a song in my life, in the traditional sense, before the Heart Echoes album. Early on, I only ever focused on improvisation and sketches within jazz, and my previous music was always collaborations and open compositions. Honestly, I never felt like I had it in me. But these days, I love writing songs, and I’m so glad I dared to get into it. I feel like my songwriting is becoming stronger for each song I write, and this one is one of my favourites.”
Neon Ion is fast becoming one of our favourites too.
