Besides our continued desire to introduce the world to the soulful sound of Scandinavia’s soul scene, we would also like to submit a new word into English vocabulary – re-spinnable.
Re-spinnable = Tracks you can listen to more than once and feels as good as the first time.
Swedish artist Rebecca Laakso returns from a short hiatus with a retro single with re-spinnability (another new word!) due to its catchy and funky rare groove arrangement.
Love’s Around could have been pulled from the ’70s soul archives. Written by Laakso and producer Daniel Lantz (Beat Funktion), Rebecca drives the song with her vocal power, and they continue to ease in and out with the chorus, keeping this track in perpetual groove motion.
Over swelling basslines and drum rhythms borrowed from old-school club funk, Lantz’s stringy keyboards and Jonas Isaksson‘s sultry guitar solo create a dance-friendly vibe.
Love’s Around, is released after Rebecca Laakso took a musical break due to the pandemic and, according to her press release, ‘energised by the thrill of meeting new experiences, new people and a new future.’
We’re thrilled she’s back, and we’ll be ‘re-spinning’ this funky groove for some time!
