Bergen-based jazz singer/songwriter Sheila Simmenes brings the Brazilian sun to Norway and beyond with infectious samba rhythms on her latest single, Here We are.
Shelia’s gentle tones are wrapped in a spicy tempo of sexy sax notes and playful keys. Through her wonderfully layered harmonies, she reveals an uplifting message urging you to claim your space in the world and define who you are – and not letting others do it for you.
Here We Are was written in an attempt to shake off expectations, limitations and worry.
“I was tired of feeling like I was never enough – and that I had to dim my light, my expression or desires to fit into someone else’s box of what they thought I should be.” – Sheila Simmenes.

Love is love
The singer dedicates this release to queer communities everywhere and to anyone trying to figure out, accept and truly be who they are.
“Being a cisgender ally needs to be more than just going to drag-nights and celebrating Pride. We need to actively work towards making our communities better for everyone. Get involved with your local organizations. Speak up and do not tolerate microaggressions, discrimination or anti-LGBTQ+ legislation.” – Sheila Simmenes
The song is produced and recorded by Sheila Simmenes and Bjørn Ole Rasch (Secret Garden, Annbjørg Lien) at Kongshavn Studio with technicians Jaran Gustavson and Roald Råsberg, mixed by Nils Wingerei and mastered by Morgan Nicolaysen. Vocals, guitars and percussions were recorded at Master Studio 112 in Rio de Janeiro by producer Marcelo Frisieiro.
