Songs with (demo) in the title should usually be approached with a degree of uncertainty. However, A Walk Through The Battlefield (Demo) by SISUSOUL is worth a serious listen.
Besides a cool name and the fact she lives in our hometown (Uppsala, Sweden), we currently don’t know much about the Swedish artist Sisusoul; however, this tracks magnetic vibe proved irresistible enough to leave us wanting more. Pulling us in are her deeply soulful vocals over a catchy production jazzy-loops (broken Jazz), and despite the title’s weight, the lyrics playfully celebrate the joy of brighter seasons, love and light.
On Instagram, Sisusoul wrote:
I fell in love with this beat the first time I listened, and that love gave birth to a freestyle that I now have done a demo remake of.
“A walk through the battlefield” is the name of the beat, and it’s the name of this single out now on all digital platforms.
Bordering the sounds of Erykah Badu and Marlena Shaw’s – Woman of the Ghetto, the single reverberates delightfully with a hypnotic, rhythmic effect. A decent run-time of 4+ mins allows Sisusoul’s lyrical flow to travel freely like dancing in an open field with outstretched arms.
While I’m not sure why artists upload demos to Spotify (SoundCloud rocks!), this is deserving of a spot in any playlist – finished or not.
