The soulful pulse of Sweden’s music scene emanates from Malmö, where an underground community of musicians thrives. Among them, artists like Steph, Söndagsklubben, and Tingsek have emerged, each carrying their own sound cultivated in the city’s vibrant cultural atmosphere.
Now, Yoel Lind-ruos and Cecilia Stalín have united fusing Skåne’s distinct dialect with Swedish sung soul.
Their debut single, ‘Har du Nånsin,’ epitomises this fusion, blending Cecilia’s Skånskan vocals with Yoel’s Lofi beats and a luxurious Neo-Soul production. Cecilia, known for her improvisational prowess, sings in her native Skånskan dialect, infusing the track with her characteristic warmth and resonance.
Yet, singing soul in Swedish remains a rarity, with mainstream radio still favouring past American hits. Despite these challenges, Cecilia and Yoel persevere, viewing their music as a celebration of Skåne’s cultural heritage and a tribute to the rich diversity of Swedish dialects.
As Cecilia states, ‘For us, performing in Skånska (the dialect of Malmö) is a way to contribute to our dialect representation and create different narratives about dialects in Swedish music’.
The duo are currently preparing a digital Summer Series for May. Each month will bring another single, with releases scheduled for June 7th, July 5th, and August 2nd on Bandcamp. This will culminate in a mini-album on September 6th, complete with bonus tracks.
Together, Cecilia and Yoel paint a dreamy scene where Swedish culture meets Lofi soulful rhythms. In our opinion, their vibes exquisitely celebrate the essence of homegrown soul music.
